Totapantha is a sub-sect belonging to the
Digambar sect in
Jainism. This sub-sect has been formed owing to the differences between the
Bisapanthas and
Terapanthis. The principles followed by the Totapanthis are a combination of both the above sub-sects. These followers however form a very minor portion of the total Jain population. They are mostly reside in parts of
Madhya Pradesh.
The Totapanthis are also referred as Sadhesolahapanthis. Here ‘sadhesolaha’ means ‘sixteen and a half’. It is the average value of twenty (bis) and thirteen (tera), which are the number of principles followed by the Bisapanthis and Terapanthis respectively. This particular value represents the combined principles followed by the Totapanthis.
