A popular landmark in
Maharashtra, Tilak Smarak Mandir was the house of the great freedom fighter and social reformer Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The building is located on the Tilak Road, one of the longest commercial roads in
Ratnagiri.
The building has a theatre on the upper floor and a small museum on the ground floor, which describes Tilak's public life. An amateur astronomy club, known as Jyotirvidhya Parisansthan, is located at the basement of the smarak.
