Thurinye Festival

Harvest Festival



Celebrated in December after the harvest, Thurinye festival of Phek District in Nagaland is a colorful festival of the Chakhesang tribe. A ceremonial rite called Mudzu (spotless piglet sacrifice) is performed by a chaste bachelor and this marks the start of feasting and celebration. During this festival people offer thanks to the gods for protecting their crops.
