Thorn Apple is a spreading herb common in wastelands, along the roadside and railway lines and in scrub-jungles. It contains Scopolamine (Hyoscine) that shows analgesic and sedative actions and produces amnesia. It also possesses anti-inflammatory property.
The drug is useful in swellings, tumors and rheumatic pains. The decoction is taken to relieve eye diseases. The flowers are ideal for asthma.
It is also known as Dhatura.
