The temple of Lord Narasimha is the most popular shrine in
Joshimath. The temple is dedicated to
Narasimha, one of the 10 incarnations of
Lord Vishnu. The deity is half-man and half-lion. It is believed that one of the arms of the idol is thinning and the day it becomes absolutely thin and falls off from the idol, that day the route from Joshimath to
Badrinath will close due to certain natural phenomenon. In front of the temple, there's a reservoir made of stone. The reservoir has two brass spouts, known as Danddhara and Narshimhadhara. There are idols of
Lord Ram and his consort,
Sita between the brass spouts.
