Temminck's Tragopan




Temminck's Tragopan pheasant is one of the most beautiful of the Tragopans. It is also known by the names Crimson bellied Tragopan, Chinese crimson pheasant or Temminck's horned pheasant. This bird is found in northeastern India from Myanmar (Burma) to northern Vietnam to central China. The bird's head is black with a mask around its blue facial skin. There is a deep orange-red colour on its crest, neck and breast. Some males have a bright orange collar. The remaining body is crimson spotted with gray on its lower breast. Black-lined white spots are found on wing coverts, back and upper tail coverts. The female is greyish brown with black, grey or white spots. The bird can be seen in the Daranghati Sanctuary, Himachal Pradesh.
