Tea-Tribe




Tea-Tribes are found in the districts of Darrang, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, of Assam. The tribes are known for their two popular dance forms namely Jhumair and Danda.

The tribe members are believed to be the populace, who migrated to Assam in search of work from Orissa, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

The tribes celebrate Karam puja as their main festival, which is observed in the night of Bhado Ekadasi (August). Other festivals are Fagua (the festival of color), Sohorai, Gobordhan puja, Ganesh puja, Tushu puja and Gram puja.
