Tarapur Atomic Power Station




Tarapur Atomic Power Station, India's first nuclear power station, is situated at Tarapur in Thane District. The station started commercial operation in 1969; this boiling water reactor (BWR) has two units generating 160 MWe each. The plant uses enriched uranium as fuel. Fuel reprocessing plant to reprocesses natural and low enriched UO2 fuels, waste immobilization plant and solid storage surveillance facilities are also attached to Tarapur Atomic Power Station. The other two fuel reprocessing plants are Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station and Trombay Atomic Station. Nearest railhead is Thane and airport is at Mumbai.
