T. Balasaraswati

T. Balasaraswati was a world-famous Bharatanatyam dancer. Born in 1918, she belonged to a family that was devoted to Carnatic music. She mastered dance under the supervision of late Guru Kundappa Pillai. Balasarswati made her debut performance in her seventh year. For her immense contributions, she was awarded Padma Bhushan, award by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and an honorary doctorate from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She passed away in 1984.
