Suparshvanath is the seventh
Tirthankar among the 24 Jain Tirthankars. He was born to King Supratishtha of
Varanasi and Prithvi at Kasi (Banaras). After his father’s death, he ascended the throne.
One day Suparshvanath observed the falling of leaves and wilting of flowers and this led to the awareness of the transient nature of life. Soon, he gave his kingdom to his son and became an ascetic. After nine months of disciplined practices he attained enlightenment on the sixth day of the dark half of the month of Phalgun. He had around 95 disciples.
He attained Nirvana at Samet Sikhar on the seventh day of the bright half of the month of Palgun. Svastika is the emblem of Lord Suparshvanath.
