Sri Abhimukeswarar Temple is a highly revered shrine located at Kumbakonam, in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Abimukesha along with his consort Goddess Amudhavalli. The beautiful idol of Abimukesha faces west. It is believed that Lord Abimukesha, for giving darshan to the nine river maidens during Mahamagam Festival turned his face westward – hence the name.
