Spotted Saw Tooth Butterfly




Spotted Saw Tooth (Prioneris thestylis), a common butterfly of white or brownish black colour, is commonly found in Barapani town of Meghalaya. The wingspan is about 7 to 9 cm.

White streaked or white spotted markings are seen on the upper surface of the wing. The remarkable feature of Spotted Saw Tooth is its pointed fore wing. A group of four small prominent white spots form an oblique line can be seen on the forewing of the female species. The butterfly often visits damp patches and flowers of Lantana.
