Spotted Redshank




Spotted Redshank (Tringa erythropus) is a medium sized elegant wading bird, slightly larger than a Redshank. The size varies from 29 to 31 cm. The bird is black in breeding plumage and very pale in winter. Legs and bill are red, and show a white oval on the back in flight.

It nests on the ground, occasionally near trees in wooded tundra and arctic taiga, often near water. Female lays three to four eggs. The bird feeds on insect larvae, shrimps and worms.

Spotted Redshank can be seen in the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Rajasthan.
