Sir George Hilaro Barlow (1762-1846) was the acting governor general of India for a short period of 1805-1807.
George Barlow reached Calcutta in 1779 following his appointment to the Bengal civil service. He became chief secretary to the government in 1796, under the tenure of Sir John Shore as the Governor General of India. He was made a member of the supreme council in 1801. In July 1805, at the death of Lord Cornwallis, the then governor general, Sir George Barlow was appointed as the acting Governor General of India.
During his tenure, Sir George Barlow merely continued the policies of Cornwallis. His chief objectives were the betterment of economy and peace. Though his administration is not considered outstanding, it had been just and helped in the financial prosperity of the country. His tenure ended on July 1807 with the appointment of Lord Minto as the new Governor General.
