Sibdol Temple




Sibdol Temple, also spelt Shivadol Temple, is one of the tallest Shiva temples in India. It is located in Sibsagar, on the banks of the Sibsagar Tank. The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva.

The temple was built in 1734 by Queen Madambika (King Siva Singha’s wife) of Ahom Dynasty. It has about 104 ft height and 195 ft base perimeter. The temple is a significant landmark in the artistic history of Assam.

Two famous temples, the Vishnudol and Devidol, are situated nearby. The nearest railway station is at Simaluguri, 16 km from Sibsagar.
