Shyonaka is a small to medium sized deciduous tree naturally seen in the secondary forests in the tropics. It is characterized by light grayish brown, soft, spongy bark.
The root bark is considered tonic, astringent and diaphoretic. It is useful in diarrhea and dysentery. The stem and root barks hold oroxylin-A, baicalein and chrysin, three flavone-coloring matters.
Also known as Bhatghilla and Jigat, it grows well in Arunachal Pradesh.
