Shiranjitea is a much-branched, beautiful shrub with fluted stems, commonly found throughout North India ascending to an altitude of 1,500 m. Sometimes it is cultivated in gardens for its flowers. It is also known as Fire Flame Bush.
The seeds are brown, minute, smooth and obovate. Bark is reddish brown, peeling off into thin and fibrous strips. The plant has oblong-lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate leaves.
The flowers show astringent and stimulant properties. Dawi, Santha and Dhaura are its local names.
