| Jammu and Kashmir | MulbekhShargol Monastery
Shargol Monastery is situated about 10 km from Mulbekh in Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir. This old Ge-Lugs Pa Buddhist monastery has interesting frescoes. There is a temple with an image of an eleven handed Avalokiteshwar in the monastery. The wooden carved images of Tara, done by the Tibetan artists are impressive. There is a tiny Buddhist nunnery below. This monastery which juts out of a brown, granite cliff, appears as if it is suspended in the middle of the mountain.
Shargol monastery can be accessed on the Kargil - Leh road.
