Sharadiya Navratna

Sharadiya Navratna is a vrat (fast) which begins on the first day of the full moon of Ashwin (September-October). As the name indicates, it lasts for nine days. Goddess Durga is worshipped and unmarried girls are given food on this occasion. Havan - a sacred ritual made to Lord Agni - is done on the Ashtami or eighth day. This Vrat ends on the day of Navami. The devotees sing Bhajans and kirtans during these days. Ram Leela, the enactment of Ramayana in the form of folk opera, is organized. This period is considered auspicious to start any important work.
