Shaban is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. The word was derived from 'shu'ba', meaning branch. Lexically it means consecutively escalating (undisturbed increase). This month falls between the significant months of Rajab and Ramadan. Devotees observe fasting in Shaban which is considered as a preparatory fast for Ramadan.
