Seni Rabab is a large and heavy musical instrument. It differs from
Rabab because of a large hook, which is present at the back. This hook helps the instrument to be placed on the shoulders while going in processions.
Seni Rabab was popular during the Mughal period. Tansen, a great musician in the court of Akbar, used this instrument. It has been mentioned that the first guru (spiritual teacher) of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak, had great love towards this instrument. Today the instrument is rarely used.
