Scarlet Macaw

Scarlet Macaw (Ara Macao) has a long pointed red tail and yellow and blue wings. They grow about 85 cm in length. These noisy, colorful birds can be found in riverside tropical rain forests.

All 18 species of macaws are threatened and they are listed under the endanger species. The primary dangers are habitat loss and heavy exploitation for pet trade. They can be easily trained to imitate the human voice.

They eat fruits, nuts, flowers and nectar. These macaws also eat clay from riverbanks.
