Saptarangi (Latin name, Casearia esculenta) is a shrub with a pale yellow outer layer.
The roots contain leucopelargonidin, arabinose, dulcitol ß-sitosterol and two resinous substances. The root and the root bark possess hypoglycemic property, thus it is used as an anti diabetic.
