Sankha Smriti




Sankha Smriti is an ancient text containing the code of conduct to be followed by the Hindu society. This text is attributed to a revered sage Sankh, who described the customs and policies followed in a particular time period called ‘Dwapar Yuga.’ This book contains a total of 14 chapters.

The initial chapters describe the duties, rites, rituals and ceremonies to be performed by a Brahmin. The later chapters go into the topics like importance of celibacy and religious offerings. There is an overall stress on the household duties and the manner in which a guest should be treated. According to this book, guests are equivalent to gods and they should be treated likewise. There are also chapters dedicated to the soul and its likely form. There is an elaborate description of the elements of nature, based on the thoughts exerted by the Sankhya philosophy.
