The word 'Sanjna' means 'Conscience'. According to the
Puranas, Sanjna was the daughter of
Viswakarma and the wife of
Surya. Sanjna's children by him are, the Manu Vaivaswata,
Yama, Yami, the two
Aswins and Revanta. Unable to bear the heat and brilliance of the sun, Sanjna gave him
Chhaya(shade) as his handmaid and went to the forests to spend her life in prayer and austerities. Later, Surya took her back to his own abode.
