Sangha Day




Sangha Day is an important Buddhist festival. The word ‘sangha’ means ‘community’. This festival celebrates the famous gathering of about 1,250 monks at Veluvana Vihara, a bamboo grove located at Rajgir in Bihar. The monks had assembled to hear the sermons of Buddha. Sangha Day celebrates the ideal of creating a spiritual community. It gives a chance for the people to commit themselves to Buddhism and its practices. The rituals include chanting, meditation and lighting of lamps. Apart from the rituals, a host of festivities mark the day.
