Samhita

Samhita is a Sanskrit word literally meaning joined or collected. It is the basic text of Vedas. The term was originally related with the style of recitation used during hymns and chants. In Vedas, it is supplemented by later explanatory commentaries such as the Brahmanas and Upanishads.
