Saktimuttam Temple




Saktimuttam Temple is located at a distance of 4 km from Kumbakonam and 3 km from Darasuram, in Thanjavur District. This famous temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and houses the idols of Brihannayaki (Peria Nayagi) and Saktivaneswarar (Lord Shiva). The idol of Peria Nayagi, kissing and embracing Lord Shiva is worshipped there. The place where the idol is situated is known as 'Tirusakti Muttam'. Saktimuttam is also known as Saktivanam (The forest where the goddess did penance).
