Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) is an annual plant bearing alternate, sessile, oblong, or ovate-lanceolate leaves; and orange yellow flowers. It is also known as Kusum Phool and Kusumbha.
It has diuretic, emanogogue, laxative, and bactericide properties. It is used as a remedy for skin diseases such as rheumatism, spots and wrinkles. Edible oil is also extracted from this plant. Safflower is recognized as a source of orange and yellow dyes, and food colorings.
