Sabado Gordo




Sabado Gordo is an annual Christian Carnival celebrated by the Goans on the Saturday just before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. It falls in mid- February and lasts for three days. The carnival initially began during the reign of King Momo. Every year it starts with a procession of colourful floats, and the revelers wearing masks appear in gaudy costumes. It is a time of great amusement and the celebration goes on till late night and in the morning of Ash Wednesday. Cultural functions and competitions are also conducted. The carnival reveals the fun loving culture of Goa and the visitors are attracted from all over India and abroad.

To reach Goa : Goa Airport at Dabolim and the railway station at Vasco Da Gama are 30 km away from the state capital, Panaji. Goa is also well connnected by roads.
