Ruff is a medium-sized wading bird. The bird grows up to 20 to 32 cm in length. It has a long neck, a small head, a rather short slightly droopy bill and medium-long orange or reddish leg. In flight, the bird displays a faint wing-stripe and oval white patches either side of the tail.
The female is called Reeve. The bird is locally called Bagbad or Gehwala. The bird feeds on insects, larvae, frogs, small fish and seeds. It inhabits in short grassy meadows and marshy ponds.
