Rudra Veena, also spelled bin or been, is one of the oldest styles of
Veena.
Rudra Veena is made of bamboo sticks, and two resonators are attached to it. Wooden floral carvings enhance the beauty of resonators. There are 24 brass-fitted frets, which are fixed on the tube by means of bees-wax. The instrument also includes four main playing strings and three to four drone strings. Wire Plectrums are used to struck the instrument.
During performance, one gourd rests on the left shoulder and the other on the right thigh. Rudra Veena is a major accompaniment for dhrupad form of music. This instrument is seldom seen now.
