Rock Eagle Owl (Bubo bengalensis) is a large, eared owl with orange eyes. It is tawny-buff in coloration mottled with black, paler below with black steaks. The facial disc is fulvous-brown to buffy, with an outstanding blackish rim. The chin and throat are white.
The bird is commonly seen in Indian sub-continent. It lives in rocky hills, wooded scrub, ravines and rocky semi-desert old mango orchards. The Owl habitually hunts from a perch, but will also make low foraging flights to dive on prey. Reptiles, frogs, crabs and large insects are its main food.
It is also known as the Bengal eagle owl and Indian eagle owl.
