Reticulated Python




Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus) is the largest of the pythons. It is a long and relatively slender snake. The size varies from 5 to 8 m. Its life span is 25 years in captivity. It is also an excellent swimmer and have been seen swimming in the sea. The snake is non-venomous, but its sharp teeth can lacerate deeply. Females are larger than males. Large females lay over 100 eggs at a time. The eggs are white and have a soft, leathery shell.

Reticulated pythons live in tropical forests in Asia. The range extends from Myanmar and India, across Southeast Asia and on many of the islands of the Philippines and Indonesia.

Diet consists of warm-blooded prey, which includes a variety of mammals, small deer, rodent, pigs, dogs, mongoose, civets, birds and lizards.
