Red-headed Bunting (Emberiza bruniceps) is a common winter visitor and passage migrant. The bird is found near cultivated areas of
Haryana. It is little bigger than a sparrow, arrives in September or October and departs in March or April.
The bird is 16 to 17 cm in length and weighs 25 g. The male has variable golden and chestnut head and bib, distinctly greenish mantle, bright yellow-green rump and yellow underparts. Female has greenish-olive or grey tone on crown and back. A few have buff-chestnut on fore crown, lower throat and upper breast. The bird feeds on seeds, other plant material, and invertebrates in breeding season.
