Rauwolfia (Latin name, Rauvolfia serpentina) is an erect, evergreen perennating undershrub found in the low altitudes in open as well as in shady areas.
The roots are used in the treatment of blood pressure. It is reputed for nervous disorders, both psychic and motor, including maniacal behavior associated with psychosis, schizophrenia, insanity, insomnia, and epilepsy. Extracts of the roots are also used for the treatment of intestinal disorders and as an anthelmintic.
