Ratheeb

Ratheeb, a form of religious ceremony, is conducted by the islanders of Lakshadweep. It is performed to invoke the blessings of preceptors like Mohiddin Thangal and Raffai Thangal. Melacheris, the original labor class of Lakshadweep Islands, are not allowed to perform Ratheeb in certain mosques. The Ratheeb mosques are patronized by the descendants of Sheikh Mohammad Kasim, the first Thangal.
