Raji Tribe

Raji tribe inhabits areas in Kumaon, Pithoragarh District, Uttarkashi District and Chamoli District of Uttaranchal. Some of them are also found in Uttar Pradesh. They are also known as Vanrawats, meaning forest lords.

The main occupations of these tribes are agriculture and collecting minor forest products. Rajis are experts in making wooden pots, bowls and cutlery.

For their own gods and some adopted Hindu ones, Rajis erect simple open-air altars with prayer flags and cloth swaying in nearby trees.
