Bandhana means fixing an idol to its pedestal inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Bandhana is recommended to be done regularly at 12 year intervals to infuse the deity with divine power. Bandhana may be done with herbs, natural elements or metals.
Rajathabandhanam is the bandhana done using Rajatham (silver). Though this is no match to Swarnam(gold) in terms of immunity from the acididicity of the abhishekadravyas (matter used for the abhisheka) and atmospheric oxidants, it is preferred for its beauty and brightness.
