Raja Prashniya Sutra is a highly revered text in
Jainism. The teaching and principles contained in it is followed by the
Shwetambar sect. It is also known as Raya Pasen Ijja.
This text is a part of the Jain canonical literature called Upang Agams, which provides explanation to the thoughts exerted by the primary texts called Agam Sutras.
Raja Prashniya Sutra contains the story of a monk named Keshi and the teachings he gave to a ruler called King Pradeshi. The king had doubts regarding matters pertaining to the soul. His doubts was removed by the monk, who was the ‘Ganadhara’ (disciple) of Lord Parshwanath, the twenty third Tirthankar.
The stories are told in the form of dramas. There are a total of 32 plays in this text, which elucidates the style of drama employed in the ancient days.
