Rain Quail (Coturnix coromandelica) is a common breeding resident, which lives in open areas, pastureland and bushy meadows. It nests during the rainy period, generally from March to October, in crop or grass. The bird lays 4 to 6 eggs. Diet consists of grass mixtures, coarse seeds and insects. It is locally called Chinna Bateya or Bater.
Rain Quail is found throughout India and upto 2000 m in the Himalayas.
