Purusarthasiddhyupaya is an important text in the Jain canonical literature. This text, written by a revered person named Amrtacandra, is themed around ‘ahimsa’ (nonviolence), the fundamental principle in
Jainism.
Purusarthasiddhyupaya deals with nonviolence in all its aspects. It states that even an evil thought or word is a type of ‘himsa’ (violence). A person by simply thinking of an evil act commits a sort of violence, even though the actual act is not committed. Himsa or Violence should therefore be avoided in all its form.
