Pullirukkuvelur Vaidyanathar Temple




Vaidyanathar Temple, situated at Pullirukkuvelur near Sirkazhi, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a vast monument with several mandapams and gopurams. The principal deities are Vaidyanathaswamy and Thaiyal Nayaki. The Shivlingas here are said to have been worshipped by Lord Ram, Jatayu, Skanda, Surya and Angaraka. The temple holds the inscriptions from Chola, Pandya and Nayak dynasties. Sidhamrita Teertham is the sacred tank. The chief festivals are the annual Brahmotsavams held in the months of Pankuni (March-April) and Thai (January-February). Other festivals include Bavaratri and Skanda Shashti.
