Prickly-Chaff Flower is an annual herb that grows in dry places and wastelands, up to 2,100 m high from sea level.
It possesses pungent, astringent, diuretic, alterative, antiperiodic, and purgative properties. Various parts of the plant is prescribed as a remedy for piles, skin eruptions, opthalmia, dysentery, liver complaints, rheumatism, scabies, bronchial affections and in leprosy.
The seeds are embryo annular and surrounded by floury albumin, and are used in renal dropsy, bronchial affections and in leprosy. The leaves, ovate-elliptic-obovate-rounded, are used in gonorrhea. The roots are useful in making medicines for cancer, stomach troubles and bladder stones.
