Porutham means condition while matching the horoscopes of a bride and groom. As per Indian astrology, marriage compatibility is worked out on the basis of 10 poruthams, in relation to the Janma Nakshatra (birthstar) and the Janma Kooru. These poruthams include Rashi, Rashyadhipan, Vashyam, Mahendram, Ganam, Yoni, Dinam, Strideergham, Madhyamaraju and Vedham.
If more than half of these poruthams and the respective Jathakams (horoscopes) match, it is decided that the couples are well-matched for marriage.
