Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus), a very active Indian butterfly, belongs to the genus Danaus. The African Monarch and the African Queen are its other two names.
The butterfly is a very fast flier and found in the deserts and in the hills up to an altitude of 3000 m. It flaps its wings in a rolling fashion and remains in air for substantially long time. Plain Tiger is fond of flowers of lantana, fiddle-leaved jatropha, Ceylon carissa, common zinnia, celosia pyramidalis, Aztec marigold, sunflower, bachelor's button, sweet sultan and floss flower.
