Pilak




Pilak is an archaeological site located at Belonia in South Tripura District. Covering an area of 10 sq km, large number of stone images and terracotta plaques of 8th - 9th centuries are found here.

Artefacts including sandstone images of Buddha, Mahishasuramardini, Surya, Avolokiteswar and exquisite terracotta images of Lord Buddha are excavated. The seals depicting Hindu and Buddhist creed have also been collected from Pilak. Many of these antiques are placed in Tripura Government Museum.

Pilak is at a distance of 100 km from Agartala. Nearest major town is Udaipur, which is around 45 km north-west. National Highway 44 passes east of Belonia.
