Pharbitis (Ipomoea hederacea) is an annual vine found in central India. It grows in fields, fencerows and waste places.
Pharbitis can be used as a substitute for jalap, a purgative drug from the tuberous roots of a Mexican climbing plant. Lyzergol, an alkaloid, is isolated from this plant.
Pharbitis is also known as Krishna Beej and Kaladana.
