Phalsa is a fruit-bearing crop grown commercially in
Punjab,
Haryana,
Uttar Pradesh and
Andhra Pradesh. The fruit is berry-like, globular, and deep reddish brown.
Being a deciduous plant, it withstands drought and frost conditions. It can be grown in almost all kind of soil textures, but in waterlogged conditions, the plant shows poor growth. Improved varieties are tall and dwarf type. Propagation is mainly by phalsa seedlings and cuttings.
