Peepli Song

The women in Rajasthan have a number of folk songs for expressing their feelings. Prominent among them is the Peepli. This song contains the pangs of a woman, whose husband has left her for a long period or is about to leave. The words contain her desire for his safe and quick return.

The Gangaur and Teej festivals, which celebrate the marital relationship, are some of the important occasions when the Peepli song is sung by the women folk.
